C. H. Arnold (1871 - ?) is the son of an organist and in his teens also became a church organist and choirmaster along with playing piano and violin. In its original form as Piano Trio, “Heart Throbs” seems to have been penned in 1907. I found it in a box of music in the 1980’s and immediately fell in love with its utterly, over-the-top schmaltz. But why should it not be fun for quartets too? So here it is in quartet version. Viola absolutely required (not an option as many of these arrangements are).
